HOW IT WORKS · OVERVIEW
  1. Original file
  2. Signatures panel
  3. Validation details

An image and an electronic signature

A name, handwritten mark or box can help a reader, but the image alone does not prove a qualified signature was applied. The original file can contain a signature without a visible signature graphic.

Open the signatures panel

In Adobe Acrobat, open the document and the Signatures panel. Run validation and inspect the details. Signature properties also let you view the signer’s certificate. Button names and positions can differ between application versions.

Read the complete result

Check the identity shown in the certificate and the application’s findings about the signed content and time. An unverified-trust message needs investigation; the graphic’s appearance does not replace validation. Do not change trust settings merely to hide a message.

Keep the original file

Use the received file, rather than a photo, scan or a new PDF made by printing it. Start a support enquiry by describing the message. Signing a document and having a particular portal accept it are separate checks.

The solution and your next questions

Explore the solution and support
Must a PDF display a handwritten-looking signature?

No. A signature image does not prove a qualified signature was applied. The signature stored in the file and its validation result are what matter.

Does renewal change signatures on older documents?

Renewal concerns the next certificate. Validation of an older file assesses its signature and available time evidence; the new certificate’s date is not a substitute.
